Burmite is a variety of Amber found in Burma and named for this locality. It is from the Cretaceous Period and first documented in Burma in 1836. Burmite is fluorescent and glows a beautiful
blue under shortwave (SW) UV light.

Amber is a fossil resin that is a mixture of hydrocarbons, resins, succinic acid and oils. It is the fossilized resin of pine trees from about 30 million years ago. For more information please see the Amber information page.
